Flyin' Squirrel a Proud Sponsor!

My goal is to do what is right for roller derby, its charities, and its people.
That is first and foremost and, in doing so, I have faith that Fyin' Squirrel
will help support myself and family. Why mention this? Because, as a
testament to this dedication, these sponsorships were contracted before
Flyin' Squirrel so much as sold its first shirt.
Our favorite flying rodent is proud to be an official sponsor of the
following leagues and events!
All gratitude starts at home. None of what derby means to me exists
without the trust of Crackerjack and the Mad Rollin' Dolls. As one of the
Then there's Bob and Baam's derby home away from home - and one of
the best first-year leagues ever -the Fort Wayne Derby Girls. Contacted to
help announce at their second bout ever (July 16, 2006), Baam and I were
amazed at how good they were already! The two-team league played to
WFTDA rules, including three twenty-minute periods. We immediately
became fans, and have been back many times. After the first season
ended last September, they assembled the inter-league team - The Bomb
Squad - and won three out of four bouts. The Bomb Squad completed its
mission beating the Chi-Town Sirens Saturday April 21st at The Fort.
OHRG is another league entering its second season I really like. This is a
league that is focused on their future and their coaches and a handful of
players have taken in more roller derby than any others I know of. I see
There really is nothing like the Big Apple. Madison and the Gotham Girls
held the first inter-league bout East of the Mississippi in August of 2005.
I'll never forget my night in The Bronx and the terrific people of GGRD.
Including Flying Squirrel! Flyin' Squirrels' human mascot.

pleasure of working with
them since their first

They are not afraid of a
grueling inter-league

their travel team - the Dairyland Dolls - one of the most road- experienced
teams in the country. The Dairyland Dolls are currently ranked #4 in the
nation and are seeded #1 in the upcoming Eastern Regionals.
This four-team league finished its third season on April 28th, crowning
the Reservoir Dolls their champs in a one point, last jam victory. The
Dairyland Dolls (ranked #4) inter-league season is:
June 23rd - Inter-league bout vs. Texas' Hotrod Honey's.
July 14th - Inter-league bout vs. Tucson Saddletramps (ranked #2)
August 17-19 - Heartland Havoc - the Eastern Regional Tournament in
Columbus Ohio. The top four finishers advance to the Nationals.

TXRG's Texacutioners, and the Kansas City

them a berth to the National Championship

was open to all WFTDA sanctioned Division 1

Eastern Regional, giving us the other four
teams for the eight-team National

We all know the re-birth of derby was in Austin, which, for every skater and
fan, is hallowed ground. What you might not know, however, is that Texas
has had so many leagues spring up in the last two years, they're practically
their own region! Houston was actually the first Texas league I had met. On
the way to the 2006 Dust Devil, our layover put us on-board with HRD, and
I've enjoyed the few opportunities I've
had to catch up with the HRD crew ever
since. They've just moved into the
Verizon Center, putting them in a facility
many of us dream about. Of the newer
leagues in Texas, Houston was one of
the first and might be the best. And, I
have to admit, their logo might be my
favorite. I only pull the HRD shirt out for
nice occasions, like weddings and
holidays! I am a classy, classy man.
Houston just kicked off their season and
the rest of it is as follows:

If your league is getting ready for its season to kick off and you'd like to have
Flyin' Squirrel on board, I'd like to talk to you! The combination of return
exposure, shwag for fans, and sponsorship dollars creates an arrangement
where FS, your league, and the fans all win! Just e-mail Bob.
Though I have friends in most WFTDA leagues, WCR - Chicago - is home to
a couple of my closest derby friends. I'm excited they've been added to the
Flyin' Squirrel family of leagues. The Windy City Rollers, Minnesota
RollerGirls, and the Mad Rollin' Dolls were the first Mid-west leagues to
skate. We all started within about six months of each other and the skaters
from the three leagues were all very supportive of one another. There are
many bonds among the three leagues.
WCR's season is set as follows:
April 21st - League bout.
May 19th - League bout.
June 9th - Inter-league bout at Sin City (Vegas).
June 16th - League bout.
July 21st - League Bout.
August 17-19 - Heartland Havoc Eastern
Regional Playoffs (Inter-league) in Columbus, OH.
August 25th - League bout.
September 15 - League bout.
September 29-30* - National Championship
Tournament (inter-league) in Austin, TX.
October - League championship - TBA
Upcoming inter-league play:
August 17-19 - Heartland Havoc, Eastern
Regional Tournament
September 29-30* - National Championship
Tournament (inter-league) in Austin, TX.
Well, as you can read in the Dust Devil info
below, we know who is going to play in the
Nationals for the West, now it's about time to
determine the East. OHRG will host the 2007
WFTDA East Regional Tournament. Flyin'
Squirrel will be a sponsor for this event,
August 17-19, 2007, as the 12 teams east of
the MIssissippi River will fight to gain one of
four spots available in the Nationals. The
location is as follows:
Battelle Hall in the Greater Columbus
Convention Center, Columbus, OH
If you're a real fan, take an hour some night and check out what is likely
the best Web site in roller derby. And, of course, you never want to miss
an episode of derby's best podcast - Radio Free Derby.
Listen while Hambone and crew get you the scoop on
Gotham Girls Roller Derby as well as news from the
national scene. As the Eastern Regionals and the
Nationals are played in August and September, you can
bet RFD will be there! Subscribe so you don't miss an

What may be one of the greatest personal honors as owner of the fuzzy
rodent is having just joined ranks with AZRD. All of us at MRD look at AZRD's
travel team, the Tent City Terrors, as the team that helped us attain that next
level of play back on a snowy evening in
December 2005. The speed and strategy
were unlike anything I had seen up to that
point. They pulled away in the last five
minutes, but thrilled the crowd, taught us the
"next level" of derby - speed and defense. We
even found out Shirley Manson (Garbage)
was at the bout and blogged her experience!
The two teams were re-matched in a 10
minute qualifying bout in the 2006 Dust Devil,
where AZRD won 7pts to 5pts! You can bet
these teams are likely to meet again soon. Coach "The Waterboy" Pauly
has been dedicated to helping train new leagues in both the U.S. and
Canada. They are an integral league in derby's foundation and future.
Thanks to Freddy for working with me on this and AZRD for being
on-board for 2007 playoffs and the 2008 season. YES, Helen/Sherrif is
Bob's favorite skater of all-time! She never believes me, but who'd
believe anything from a guy in a bad outfit and crazy hair? Remaining
